Vitamin Supplements & Weight Loss
A healthy diet and adequate exercise are necessary for weight loss. There's no easy fix, no matter what the creators of fad diets would have us believe. Dietary supplements by themselves won't reduce your weight (at least not in large amounts, and certainly not permanently). When used to complement healthy eating and exercise, however, some dietary supplements appear to aid in weight loss by speeding up metabolism or helping the body process food more effectively.
The reasons to lose weight are as numerous as the number of dieters, but health and self-esteem top most people's lists. Extra weight can aggravate heart problems, and can cause diabetes and a host of other scary medical problems.
If you're like millions of overweight Americans, you probably have a history of weight loss . . . and weight gain. You've probably tried at least one "fad diet." You've probably counted fat grams, calories, and/or carbohydrates at some point. You've probably experienced extreme hunger at some point, either because fasting was part of the plan or because you were only allowed to eat one type of food and, after days of eating it, it suddenly seemed repulsive. You've probably also tried the long, slow weight loss programs that, combined with exercise, let you lose about half a pound a week for an eternity, but you were so discouraged after losing only ten pounds in six months that you ditched the plan.
Sure some weight loss programs say as long as you follow their plan or take their supplements you won't have to worry about exercise. But, sorry to say it, exercise is not only vital to your health, exercise and weight loss go hand in hand.
